Full review
This bike from Boogie Bikes is my favorite beach cruiser yet. It’s got an incredibly strong and quiet motor, sensitive pedal assist and a seat comfortable enough that the miles seem to melt away. It’s built right here in the US and has the largest warranty I’ve seen on a bike. If you’re looking for a high end cruiser, you’ll wanna stick around and check this bike out. It’s not cheap at $2,399 but it is one of those things where you get what you pay for. In the review, I’ll run over everything you need to know, starting off with a speed test.
Boogie bike comes with a massive 750 watt direct drive motor in the rear wheel, powered by a 48 v, 13.6 amp hour Samsung battery that takes 2-4 hrs for a recharge. Boogie says that power can take a rider up to 20 mph on the highest of 5 PAS levels it offers…for PAS level one I got 7 mph on the app and bike. PAS level 3, I got 12.5 on the bike and 13 on the app and PAS level 5, I got 20 on the bike and 21 for the app, so it is right on with the rating for my 185 lb weight...Here’s the difference in speed between PAS 1, 3 and 5… Now I haven’t tested any other bikes in this price range but I was happy with 20 mph, it was a good speed for the bike.
Boogie bike comes with a thumb throttle, so I thought it would be interesting to compare the difference in acceleration between straight throttle and PAS level 5 and as you can see straight throttle is a faster acceleration off the line beating PAS by about 3-4 mph up until the 16-17 mark, where PAS 5 catches up and lags by one mph, however throttle won the race, taking just under 14 seconds to hit 21 mph… Here’s a few different views of the acceleration difference starting off with PAS 1, 3 and 5... and now the difference between PAS 5 and straight throttle. Boogie bikes has got the fastest acceleration out of any cruiser I’ve tried, it gets up and goes.
While I’m on the range test, let me tell ya the things I liked and didn’t like about the bike, starting off with the design…. This is the type of bike where you don’t realize how far you’ve gone, 20 miles feels like 3 or 4. Their design was spot on for a cruiser bike, this is the most comfortable cruiser I’ve been on yet… At 59 lbs, it’s one of the heavier bikes for a cruiser but it can hold a rider up to 300 lbs…..even when using the throttle, the bike doesn’t make a lot of noise like most bikes do with this size of motor, they have done a nice job of making this quiet…….The 18” welded aluminum alloy frame can fit a rider from 5’ up to 6’6 and has a huge 5 yr warranty, by far the biggest warranty I’ve seen. Boogie also lets you try it at home for 15 days to see if you like it and offers free shipping in the lower 48…..This was the first bike where there was some serious resistance to go faster than it’s rating, never experienced that before and didn’t really like it…..They’re also adjustable, I have them set to the highest position so I don’t have to lean over as much.….When I got back to the house, my app showed 18.78 miles less than half of what it’s rated for but I did have about half a battery bar left, so I bet I could have reached 20. Now again keep in mind, I did have this set to the highest PAS level and was going as fast as the bike could. 18.78 miles is what you can expect when the bike is going flat out. Elevation gain wasn’t bad at all with 414 feet, it was one of the flattest areas I’ve been on.
Other features I liked about the bike were the 7 speed shimano twist grip shifter, which cycled through the gears fast and smooth, no complaints there. The loud flick bell and large backlit lcd screen displaying battery life, speed, PAS level and odometer. The pad on the left side of the handlebars has three buttons, two for the PAS and a power button at the bottom. Hold the top arrow to turn on the lights (light video) and the bottom for walk assist mode. The 26 x 2” white walled tires gave the bike the classic metro vintage look that I thought was a nice touch.
Boogie bike comes with front and rear disc brakes, here’s the stopping distance from PAS 1,3 and 5 with level 5 stopping at 25' from 20 mph. The brakes are very smooth and powerful and can be applied firmly without losing control.
So here’s what you get with the Boogie bike, a top speed of 21 mph. A good acceleration, reaching that speed using straight throttle in less than 14 seconds. Range is decent when on the highest PAS level at 18.78 miles, take that down to PAS 1 or 2 and you should be in the 40-50 range. Hill climbing is fantastic up a 11% grade hill, more than enough power and could definitely tackle a higher grade. Brakes are smooth and powerful, bringing me to a stop in 25 feet from 21 mph. I have no problem recommending this bike, I really enjoyed my time on it. It’s fun to look at, super comfortable with plenty of power.
