Bandit X-Trail Pro Dual Motor Electric Bike Review

Powerful Performance and Impressive Range

Out of the 131 e-bikes I reviewed, this one has something no other bike has - this is the first dual motor e-bike I've reviewed and I'm excited to show you what it can do.

Before I show you how fast it can go, you have some options for how much power you want released when you first turn on the bike. Only the rear 1000 watt motor is selected. Hit the power button and it switches to the front 750 watt motor. Hit it again and both are selected. Hit it one more time for turbo mode.

Let's see how fast this can go - 36, 38, 39 mph!

My favorite feature is the takeoff power. This is the first e-bike where the front tire peeled off the line, very impressive given its 121 lb weight. Not only is it the most powerful e-bike I've reviewed, it's the heaviest.

I've got the bike on the highest setting. It will skid the tires 7-8 feet with pure acceleration power and delight. In less than a block it hit 30 mph.

Now let's see how it tackles hills. That's over a 26% grade, very short but steep. My battery shows 55% charge. I've got both motors on max.

Starting the climb with momentum... It's kicking butt! Slowing down near the top at 9 mph. Let me turn around and try that again without momentum.

The front wheel is spinning out a bit but it powers its way to the top.

What type of brakes for something this fast and heavy? 180mm hydraulic discs with alloy levers and motor cut off. Light braking results in some squalling and the back wheel fishtailing, but it was smooth.

There are 3 main reasons I was excited to share this bike:

  • The top speed
  • The takeoff power
  • The range

It has 2 batteries - one built into the frame, one under the saddle. Nice thing is the motors pull from both, bad thing is you have to charge separately which takes 5 hours.

Bandit says the bike can go up to 120 miles in conservative mode. I wanted to know the maxed out range. With both motors on turbo at an average 28 mph with stop and go, I got just under 40 miles and 1,736 feet of elevation gain. Incredible at that speed!

Other things I liked:

  • Handlebar height is plenty high with BMX style bars so you don't have to lean over much. Gives a relaxed, sightseeing posture. Slide back on the long saddle for a more aggressive position.
  • Seat is fixed so pedaling isn't that comfortable, it's designed for throttle use.
  • The weight is evenly distributed between the two motors and batteries, giving a nice balanced ride.
  • It handles well, allowing you to rip around corners. Longer seat lets you get lower and corner faster.

Bandit classifies this as an all-terrain off-road vehicle. It has the dual motors, 20 x 4 inch puncture resistant tires, adjustable suspension etc. But hitting bumps and rocks is pretty bumpy. You need beefy suspension for a heavy bike like this. For $2,000 the suspension could be better for real off-road use, but it's fine for hard pack or well traveled dirt roads.

What's most impressive is what you get for the price - same as mid-range fat bikes but with dual motors and full suspension. If I didn't know the price I'd guess this was $3,000.

An Excellent Value Electric Bike

In summary, the dual motors provide great power and speed. The range is excellent given the high speeds. It handles well and gives a balanced ride. The suspension needs some improvement for true off-road use, but overall it's an excellent value e-bike.
