OH WOW Conductor 4/3

Overview

I recently flew out to California to meet with the owner of OH WOW Cycles and get my hands on what just might be the biggest trike on the market today. It is called the OH WOW Conductor 4/3, and it is built entirely around maximizing passenger and cargo capacity. Instead of just throwing a tiny bench on the back of a standard frame, they built a massive rickshaw-style hauler designed to carry one driver up front and two full-sized passengers in the rear.

While the company didn't give me the base MSRP during my testing, they did let me test out some of the major accessories that transform this trike into an all-season vehicle. From a rugged canopy to a massive tow-behind trailer, the Conductor 4/3 is designed to replace your car for local errands. It arrives at your house mostly assembled, and in my experience, taking it out of the box and sliding the top on takes just about half an hour.

Real-World Performance

To see what this massive trike could actually do, I put it through a gauntlet of riding scenarios. The first thing I wanted to test was range. We drove roughly 15 miles around the area with two adult riders onboard and drained just over half of the 48V 20Ah battery. Based on my testing, you are looking at a very realistic real-world range of 25 to 30 miles. If you want to go further, the frame can accommodate two batteries to double your range up to 60 miles.

Next, I had to see how the motor handled a heavy payload on an incline. I loaded up two adults and took on a local hill test. I am not going to sugarcoat it—the motor began losing power on the steepest section. My passenger and I had to pedal aggressively to help the trike make it to the top. The torque sensor definitely rewards the effort you put into the pedals, but you will absolutely need to use your own leg power if you are hauling multiple adults up steep grades.

Going down those same hills, however, inspired a lot of confidence. I ran a downhill brake test, and the disc brakes on each of the three tires provided plenty of stopping power for such a heavy rig. I also tested the canopy at 20 mph to see if the wind would rattle it apart, but the metal frame bolted to the front and rear stayed incredibly stable.

Design & Build Quality

The sheer size of this trike is the first thing you notice. The frame is an absolute tank. It officially has a weight capacity of 440 lbs, but during my testing, it did not seem to notice when we well exceeded that limit. The downside of all this ruggedness is the weight. The trike weighs over 150 lbs, and I found that just lifting it up to put it on a travel rack is incredibly difficult.

In terms of ride comfort, OH WOW clearly put thought into the components. You get a hydraulic front fork suspension to smooth out bumps, along with a suspension seatpost for the driver. The aluminum fenders keep road debris away, and I loved how the grips beautifully match the saddle. Up front, you get an adjustable stem and a clear color LCD screen to monitor your ride.

My favorite design choice is in the back. I am 5-foot-11, and I hopped into the rear bench with a 6-foot-3 passenger. We both had plenty of room to stretch out, and I still had three or four inches of clearance above my head before hitting the canopy roof. The bench seat itself is divided, meaning you can lift up one side to access the bottom storage compartment to grab a water bottle without making the other passenger stand up.

Key Features

The feature list on this trike is exhaustive. On the drivetrain side, you get a 7-speed Shimano shifter, a thumb throttle, and 5 levels of pedal assist powered through a responsive torque sensor. It also includes functional commuter features like a reverse gear, blinkers, and built-in head and tail lights.

The accessories really steal the show. I tested the $250 optional canopy, which features a front windshield that completely shielded me during a simulated rain test. The water simply ran right off the angled glass. For hotter climates, it provides excellent shade, and you can easily roll up the side ties to let the breeze in. Unfortunately, you cannot run the canopy and the optional front rack at the same time, as they use the exact same mounting holes.

I also tested the $450 tow-behind trailer. This little trailer is rated to hold up to 600 lbs. To prove it, we managed to get 620 lbs worth of weight inside of it, including a 250-pound rider. We also loaded it up with a ton of beach towels and gear, making it clear that this trike is ready for massive grocery hauls or full family beach days. If that is not enough, the rear bench seats can be entirely removed to reveal an open cargo basket.

Who It's For

I would point families looking for a fun, all-weather way to take their kids to school directly toward the OH WOW Conductor 4/3. It is also an absolute dream for riders living in hot or rainy climates who want the protection of a canopy and the cargo capacity to do a week's worth of grocery shopping without starting a car engine.

Who Should Skip It

If you live in a very hilly area and plan to haul multiple adults, you should skip this trike, as you will be forced to pedal intensely to make it up steep inclines. It is also a terrible fit for apartment dwellers or anyone who needs to regularly lift their e-bike onto a standard vehicle rack, as the sheer size and 150-pound weight make it very difficult to move manually.

How It Stacks Up

Because there is truly nothing exactly like this on the market, I compared it generally against other bench-style trikes available today. In my testing, the Conductor 4/3 stands out in five major ways. First is the sheer size; it easily fits two full-sized adults, whereas competitors often feel cramped. Second is the brilliant split-seat design for accessing storage, compared to the open-basket designs of other brands.

Third, the safety features are a step above. This trike features retractable, locking seat belts, while other brands usually just bolt basic straps directly to the back of the frame. Fourth is passenger comfort; the foot room back there is about double what I see on rival machines. Finally, OH WOW included dedicated parking brakes on both brake levers—a crucial safety feature for parking on inclines that most other brands omit entirely.

Final Verdict

The OH WOW Conductor 4/3 is one of the most capable, passenger-friendly electric vehicles I have ever tested. Between the massive cargo space, the protective all-weather canopy, and the comfortable seating for three, it completely rethinks what a heavy-duty e-trike can be. As long as you are prepared for its massive weight and don't mind pedaling on steep hills, it is an incredible replacement for your daily driver.
